Photographer’s Note

This is an example of an advertisement that can be seen almost everywhere in Bangladesh: The cityscapes are dominated by the huge posters; magazines and newspapers are full of ads for the "Fair&Lovely" facial cream. The ad conveys that in one month you can change your skin from brown to white. Above the first photo in this series it says "7 days", above the next it says "14 days", then "21 days", and finally - you end up as a white beauty queen after "28 days".....how disgusting is this? What signals does it give to the young generation? Of course these posters are everywhere in the capital Dhaka. More surprisingly they are now also many places in smaller cities.
