Photographer’s Note
****
In the rank,
the feet are motionless.
The bodies twist.
The heads are agitated,
and the spirits digress.
The rank it is not for us.
We are not soldiers.
We are only children.
We want to play and shout.
We want to move after the school.

Hi Bertrand,
Different face expressions, but not one of them seems to be happy, kind of of sadness in their eyes. The idea is very original, i like that. The not straight lines shows all their faces a slow moving dof...very creative.

I really like the way you used the DOF for this shot. It makes the face of that sad boy to stand out over all the others who look more surprised than sad. The colours are very good too.

Hello Bertrand,
Excellent portrait !
Bien vu !

Hi Bertrand.
We are not soldiers...sometimes.
We are only children...almost.
I'm surprised that any one was smiling...,or not.
About the shot I like the winding form in their heads, the gradual out of focus, the soft colours in their uniforms and all arround, the good sharpness at close-up.I think it's really a very well done shot and a very good scene.Congratulations.
Regards,
Sonsoles.

Salut Bertrand! This is a hard picture to take, and has nothing to do with sweet childhood as I had it for example and my parents held everything that was not nice back from me to give me an innocent little start into my life. Although you cannot see anything wrong in the picture itself there is absolutely no happyness in their beautiful faces. This is an important photo, and I am a little ashmed that I only show "nices" ... Barbara.

hello Bertrand,
as others have noted, this is a very powerful photo, mainly due to the contrast the military-style uniforms create with the cautious and even slightly afraid kids. it's obvious that they are more used to strict discipline that games, and it makes me think of a poster in the window of the NY Child Study Center that I pass by every day "the most important thing about childhood is having one".
and I like a lot how you have composed the photo, once again emphasising that they are kids and not meant to stand still in a straight line. superb work, my compliments.
with kind regards,
Kristine

hello Bertrand
A refreshing pov. Focus on the first and the rest in blur. I like the uneven row and the curious tilt of heads to take a peek. The pattern is so interesting as your subject.
Well done.

Bonsoir Bertrand,
Bravo

Excellent DOF - an image with real impact! The clarity and capture of the boys' face and expression at the front of the line is fantastic, and you've blurred out those behind perfectly. Composition is interesting too, right down the middle works well for this one. Love the note too...
