Photographer’s Note
The highway that connects the eastern provinces with the central heartland clings to narrow mountainsides such as this spectacular section between the villages of Sengor and Namling. Building the road was a major undertaking, and it is estimated that about 300 workers lost their lives in the process. Chortens (stupas) line the road in commemoration of these brave souls, as well as offering comfort for those that journey here. To this day the route continues to be treacherous, with frequent landslides and little room to manoeuver.
