Almost a kilometre into the mountain this 30 ton winch was lowering this 15 ton ferrule( large diameter pipe in which water rushes towards the turbines of a hydroelectric plant) down a 52 degree slope. It is welded to other ferrules that form a pressure shaft almost a kilometre long and then encased in concrete. An engineering marvel.

A mountaineer cannot stop rolling if he slips down a 45 degree slope. Lowering a 15 ton pipe onto another at 52 degrees and matching the faces for a weld with a 10 mm error allowed is a marvel of engineering. To place 499 pipes perfectly is almost impossible. This 500th pipe will complete the engineering impossibility succesfully. Next time you turn on a switch in your home and its flooded with light say a prayer to all those that died so your lives could have light. 49 gave their lives here.
