Photographer’s Note

Bhutan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world in part because of its insistence in not selling out to neo-liberal economic pressure and to half baked development ideologies that dominate, thus maintaining its values intact. Its Dzongs or Temple fortresses are one aspect of the spiritual values of the society. This picture was taken on the way to Jakar on a very rainy day. If I recall correctly it is the Wangdi Dzong taken from the side of the entrance.

Hello, Peter -

This is a nice photo. You didn't provide any technical information on how it was digitized, but there seems to be some color shift in the clouds near the center top. As for digital post-processing, I keep feeling I should strengthen the colors a bit (Curves is best for that), but there is the danger of artificially brightening the whole scene, which is clearly in soft light.

Two other things I noticed immediately: the building is titled; look at the line of the rood facing us and match it to the lower edge of the frame. There are times when a tilt is useful, but this doesn't look like one of them; it looks like you held the camera a bit off. That also accounts for my other problem, which is the bit of metal roof or something in the fg along the lower edge. It doesn't belong there; it's too small to be of interest, but big enough and bright enough to be a distraction. Unfortunately, it would be a job to clone it out and that kind of manipulation would probably show.

Still, it has an overall mystical mood to it, which is what caught my attention in the thumbnail.
