The ancient Khmer capital of Angkor is a photographer's paradise. There must be zillions of Angkor pictures out here (and out here). This is my take, I hope you like it. Angkor Wat is one of the most impressive places I've ever visited and its beauty is endless.

---

Angkor is a name conventionally applied to the region of Cambodia serving as the seat of the Khmer empire that flourished from the 9th to the 15th century A.D. The word "Angkor" itself is derived from the Sanskrit "nagara," meaning "city."

The ruins are located amid forests and farmland to the north of the Great Lake (Tonle Sap) and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temples number over one thousand, ranging from nondescript piles of brick rubble to the magnificent Angkor Wat, said to be the world's largest single religious monument.

Many of the temples at Angkor have now been restored and visitor numbers approach two million annually.

In 2007 an international team of researchers using satellite photographs and other modern techniques concluded that Angkor had been the largest preindustrial city in the world with an urban sprawl of 1,150 square miles. The closest rival to Angkor, the Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala, was roughly 50 square miles in total size.

Benny,
I love these carvings - if that's the right word - can't get enough of them! Impressive scan.
Love that foliage off to the right - like a little lock of this guy's hair.
Regards
Colin

Hi Benny, Nice take on this impressive building. As Colin says, the foliage to the right is a useful addition to the image. It is a shame that the nose just caught the sun a bit, think I would have been tempted to selectively reduce the brightness of that area. well done. Cheers, Steve

Hi Benny!

Amazing, smiling "portrait", excellent sculpture, you have captured it brilliantly! Perfect tight framing, spot on light managment and great sharpness-definition! Congratulations!

Best regards,
Hercules

Bonjour Benny,

Groet, Henk

Olá Benny, good recover from your archives. It's an impressive stone face with giant puzzle pieces. It's dificult to understand the right scale, but the leaves give an idea. Nice tight composition.

Hello Benny!!
I'm going in Cambodia in october so, all of a sudden I get interested by all those south-east asia shots!!:)
How did you like your time there? What did you really like, what did you dislike?
What a beautiful piece of art. It's kind of hard to realize how large it is. We kind of forget as well how old it is...
I think your picture could be more contrasty, but I like it natural as it is...

How's your year 2 resolution going so far? If you have any pp question, let me know!! Floydian is the master here though...

Regards,

Marc
