Monks at the Bayon Photo

Photographer’s Note

Some monks posing for another photographer at the Bayon temple.
The Bayon temples were amongst my favourite at Angkor, with the 216 stone faces looking down at you from every angle. The Bayon temple was built by Jayavarman VII in the late 12th to 13th centuries. This temple looks great in the early mornig or late afternoon light.

This will be my last post for quite a while as I leave at the end of next week for Morocco.

Hi Wanda,
what a beautiful contrast, the orange of the monks and the grey natural stones. Although one edge is slightly overexposed, I wouldn´t have cropped it away either. In this case you would loose a part of the beautiful column at the left.

Hi Wanda,
a luck about that small space of sky and not more as the rest is enough to stand against that small overexposure. The excellent texture on the stones enhanced by the orange of the monks, both in a bit relaxed position, strong impression with good sharpness.

Hi Wanda,
What an attractive color play here! Rocks of temples look naturally black&white, and monks are very shining with their orange garment.
I like such naturally "partial saturation" a lot. In my opinion you could crop the upper part where OE sky and some useless leaves are seen.

Fantastic textures here Wanda, the flaming orange robes of the monks stand out so nicely against them. I can't get my eyes off of those cyan-ish carved stone pillars...

Morocco is my next destination definitely even though not as soon as I'd like, so I wish you a great, great time there and loads of photo trophies!!! May your cards be well spent lol ;))))

a great shot of these two monks. The contrast of their clothing compared to the environment is great, colors are wonderful and the choice of the vertical format was really good. A great shot, have fun in Morrocco and I`m sure you`l bring back some great shots!

The antiquity of the place is preserve and the contrast of orange against the metallic green wall is an eye catcher here. the posture of the monks is natural and adds interest to overall composition. Great shot.

Hi Wanda, The bright clothes of the monks presents a good contrast with the dull grey stones. It is a shame about the small area of overexposed sky. I wonder if you could have avoided it when taking the shot. Not relly possible to crop it out, without loosing too much else in the shot that is good. Cheers, Steve

Just the contrast of the orange against the classic color of Bayon is enough for me to stop by. I'm pretty sure your angle is much better than the one the photogapher got.
I think I would have cropped this one a bit. I would have cropped the top just over the palm tree and on the left just at the beginning of the first column.
I wish you a nice trip in Morocco. I hope you'll like this place and that it will inspire you.

Wanda,
at my very begingin here at TE I once read that everyone needs at some point of our photography career a monk picture. You got yours here and nowhere less then in Angkor Thom! The orange really stands beautifully against the grey looking stones. My only minor critique is the right upper corner. It is to much light there. My eyes get drawn first to the orange and then to that white hole in that corner. Some additional PP to dodge that would do good.

Hi Wanda,
While I wait to see the shots you are doing in Morocco, let me appreciate this relaxed moment of these monks taken on the other side of the world. The appearance of these kind of Buddhist monks makes them very photogenic, and here we managed to isolate them inside an old temple, whose almost absence of colour makes the orange of the robes stand out even more.

This is a well composed shot, simple but attractive. The saffron robes give a good contrast to the well textures stone cconstruction. Perspective is well created a. Great clarity and sharpness of the shot.

Beautiful contrast between the orange clothes and the grey stone. Another level of contrast is the young resting monk shouldering the centuries-old statue. Nice seen qnd captured, I would like to visit Ankgor some day...inshallah (did you learn that expression in Morocco :)

This is one of the rare situation where women photographers might have a disadvantage, as the monks are usually shier or more discreet in presence of ladies.

I like the relax pose that takes the monk in the back, even hiding a goddess with his robe!... :-P) Good depth, nice perspective and soft light

I miss a bit of warmth here, just boosting your yellows a little, as the flesh is pink and the robes too reddish.
