Photographer’s Note
.
* The UN family in Cambodia consists of 23 agencies, funds and programs convened under the UN Resident Coordinator. On March 8, 2007, the new UN Secretary-General sent out this message: “In almost all countries, women continue to be under-represented in decision-making positions. Women’s work continues to be undervalued, underpaid, or not paid at all. Out of more than 100 million children who are not in school, the majority are girls. Out of more than 800 million adults who cannot read, the majority are women. Worst of all, violence against women and girls continues unabated in every continent, country and culture. It takes a devastating toll on women's lives, on their families, and on society as a whole. Most societies prohibit such violence — yet the reality is that too often, it is covered up or tacitly condoned.”
* King Norodom Sihamoni and the cabinet are busy with their 14-million-population rather than some tiny domestic issue like the destiny of this woman.
* The cost of a 30-day visa entry to visit Cambodia is US$20.00.
* The cost of a one-day pass to visit Angkor Wat is US$20.00.
* In Cambodia, most households do not yet have access to public electricity service. Access rates are below 10 percent in central Cambodia and the province of Mondul Kiri. Almost all of Cambodia, less than 20 percent of the population have access to adequate sanitation which refers to the availability of a latrine in or near the house, or a flush toilet. (Source).
* The Iraq war costs American taxpayers $195 million per day.(Source).
* I took this picture in front of Children Hospital in Siem Riep City where you can see many similar mothers suffering their children’s hunger at the given dried-up breast. This is one of the obvious cases when God needs to grant a miracle. The mother in this picture may not know anything about the above information. Her only concern is her child in need of some milk while she fails to produce due to her malnutrition.

Bonjour,
Un portrait bien atendrissant ! Je trouve juste que la tête de la maman aurait gagné à être entière et l'arrière plan plus flou. C'est juste un avis. Couleur et netteté sans reproche ! Merci et bon week-end.

Very good photo Thanh! It is really sad that on some parts of the world children are starving to death when on the same moment other children are getting more food then they actually need.

With this photo focusing on the pain of others, I consider that you are back on track, after adjustment of 12 hours different from Vietnam and Cambodia to US Central time... To me, this is the negative side of traveling half the planet away from home.
I am looking forward for more pictures of your recent trip.
Regards,
MQ

To me, before this picture is a piece of art to enjoy, it is a question to digest.
I am glad you post this photo of a normal and regular humain being before showing off your arrival to Angkor complex. Your decision teaches me a lesson, and I appreciate it.
Sincerely,
huynt

The mother's face describes your point, or your notes explain her concern... whatever way, your photograph works.
Thanks and congratulations!

Hi Thanh,
...a strong social issue effectively depicted/presented in your picture. A few words...but many thoughts...
Kind regards.

This is a very powerful image. The expression on the mother's face is very sad. The baby seems to be looking for his mother's eyes, but she is very far away. I like the photo and the accompanying note. Very good post.
