Photographer’s Note

Dans la jungle à proximité du temple de Ta Prohm, des enfants s'amusent encore, trop jeunes pour harceler les hordes de touristes qui débarquent des autocars climatisés.

La plupart sont totalement indifférents à la sollicitation des petits vendeurs de cartes postales et de babioles artisanales et il est parfois insupportable de voir comment ils les repoussent, trop occupés à consulter leur guides touristiques ou se faire photographier devant les monuments khmers.

Cette petite a attiré mon attention par son sourire contagieux et sa spontanéité. Les cambodgiens, jeunes ou vieux, hommes ou femmes sont des gens d'une beauté remarquable, à l'extérieur comme à l'intérieur.

Hi Andre,

I have recently read the National Geographic article 'Kampuchea wakens form a nightmare' from 1982. The smile in this photo reassures the viewer that times might just be a little better now. I think Floydian would like this shot very much, I hope he brings back some like this when he returns from his trip to SE Asia. A good crop here, the subject takes up a good portion of the photo. The aperture reading was well used to create a sharp subject and soft background. Very good colours, even the frame is good - the colours in it compliment the scene well.

Superbe portiat dans une harmonie de tons si plaisante a l'oeil. Le sourire est splendie comme bien souvent au Cambodge et aux alentours ou comme tu as pu le voir je passe pas mal de temps moi aussi. I am in Hoi An right now and the trip is going very well. The mkII has already passed 1000 pictures this morning and some of them look like this one i see here. What a joy, what a great pleasure to see this.
The weather here is more grey and dull than warm and sunny, but i enjoying every moment of it. The south with lots of sunshine is waiting and then to Cambodia were i will try to get something like this masterpiece....it will be difficult but i will give it a try ;-)

Hi André,

Very nice portrait!
I like portraits like this in the horizontal layout. Little bit off center. Nice. On the other hand; When I take such portraits myself I sometimes have the feel like 'it's all just too easy'. You know what I mean? I mean, take a cute kid, shallow DoF and shoot ahead with some pleasant light. It makes a great photograph, and I'm happy with the result here. But sometimes when I do it, it feels too easy. It's not a challenge anymore if a cute kid is posing. It'll always be a good photograph if the light is all right (and I don't have a hangover of the day before hahaha). You know what I mean? Liker my last carnival posting. Easy (too easy?) but beautiful. Like this one! :-)
