Two Girls Passing By
Civil war and its aftermath have had a marked effect on the Cambodian population. The median age is 20.6 years, with more than 50% of the population younger than 25. At 0.95 males/female, Cambodia has the most female-biased sex ratio in the greater Mekong subregion.

Traffic all over, girls on motorbikes also.
It's still fun to do...panning.

The sense of motion and the composition are both superb and extremely well handled. great work indeed.

Hello Henk,

Nice happy faces in this well composed image. They seem happy to be in the picture. I like the action of the speed here and the nicely saturated colours. Very nice work handling the light. Thanks Henk.

Roberto

I saw this thumbnail in the main gallery and immediately knew it was yours. This is classic "Floydian" panning like only you can do it. I love the uncluttered background. It really puts all our focus on the girls. And the beautiful blur of the background has the effect of a large aperture in putting them as the only things in focus. The expressions on both of their faces are very nice and friendly. Great shot Henk.
Regards,
Ryan

great pan, great smile, great attitude. They are both so lovely :) I love it.

You have got panning off to a fine art Henk. Everthing on the bike is pin-sharp, except of course the inside of the wheels. Funny how she gestured just at the right moment. The name of her bike also tells us about her personality. Sassy! ;D
Good work
Kath

Very nice, colored, and sharp panning.
I like the expression of the girls

Hi Henk

Beautiful capture both scene and the girls. Very well composed and well timely calculated shot. Good POV too.

Nice panning shot with pretty and colorful... subjects;) great framing with some place left for the bike to go into.

Cheers

Hi Henk.

Wow! This is a really great picture. You have captured this at such a perfect time. I cant think she would be driving with one hand and be looking at you for all that long, so really well done with your timing! I also like your composition here with them at the left of the picture. The motion effect here is also really cool.

I think this is just such a fantastic picture mainly because you wouldn't of had much time to think here.

Very well done and thanks for sharing!

hi henk,
you have taken advantage of the two girls on motorcycle to do a great panning, the red color of the motorcycle is eyes catching, as well as the movement of the wheels, The kindness of Cambodians is suggested, once again, by this photo.

salut Henk,

Hi henk
amazing panning shot
great moment the object has a perfect sharpness
very good colours and nice frame.

hello Henk
the panning is perfect with its so good sharpness, and also the place of the motorbike! But what I really like,it's the attitude of the 2 girls with their lovely smile and their wave . Superb!

Hi Henk,

Groet! Dennis

Well done on the panning effects. Nice eye contact from the subjects too.

Hallo Henk,
I like the different sharpness on the motorbike and girls, the very sharp writing in front to the hair of the one in the back. And they were also aware of you, this adds some additional life.
Fine composition and colours and nice speed impression.

Hi Henk,

It's not just fun but a hard work, at least for me. This is such a succesfull presentation. You used some monopod or it's just about your hands? Well done!

Great fill-in very well focused to the bikers.
That include and nice smile from Cambodge.

Hi Henk.
Lovely bright and sharp capture with the subject in the right spot and no distractions behind thanks to your panning. The blurry wheels add to the motion effect. Neither girl has eyes for the road, thanks to you! Hope they didn't meet with an accident.
Seriously, it's a charming shot.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Henk,

Well done with such a slow speed. A good luck that they are not using helmets there! It is not so safe but good for this picture!

have a great day!

Hi Henk,
Super sharp pan. Strong lines. Shiny scooter these girls must be proud of.
And above all nice smile and greeting showing that they are quite happy to be your models for this split secong.
Lovely, just lovely.

hello, henk

heh, henk's signature panning shot? ;) V-sign for you and the girl's too, lol. ecellent expressions on your models' faces and the red motorcycle is not shabby either (photogenically speaking).

as to your note: not sure 50% being under the age of 25 is a result of the civil war. in developing countries, that situation is more like a rule nowadays (eastern/centeral europe excluded): partly due to lower life expectancy, but mostly due to much higher population growth rate than what we see in the industrialized world. in morocco, for example, more than five children per family still seemed the norm.

cheers,
kristaps

Hi Henk
I guess you couldn't come back from there without a panning. The girls are very funny. Carla's just made the remark that it must be dangerous without a helmut. But then they don't have to ride in a Moto GP. Bye the way the C.S. t-shirt with your photo look really good against the newly painted YELLOW wall. Just like your yellow and red balance here.
Regards
Nikki

Hi Henk
Panning is sometimes hard to get just right but you have achieved it well here. A nice simple BG and room in front of the bike to move into.
very nice.
Phil

Henk,
Your panning skills are truly impressive. Not only are the girls and motorbike really sharp, but they're also perfectly positioned in the frame. I guess you must have practised a lot! It's great too that you managed to catch them with nothing distracting in the frame. They look very happy to be photographed!
John

Henk,
it is still fun to see ... panning, especially when it has this clarity and sharpness of the moving object. Obviously the sign of victory that the smiling lady throughs at you are THE detail of this shot and I almost forgot to realize that this is a panning. Composition, colors and contrast are perfect, as usual. Good that the background is clean, without any distracting blurred elements.

Colors and sharpness on the bike are superb, and it's nice to see the girl has understood that you shot her, and she has beautiful smile.

Bravo.
Xavier

Hi Henk,
You have proven time and time again that you are a master at the difficult art of panning (I have tried panning and it is not easy). The technique of this type of photography is difficult enough, but capturing the girls' expressions is what impresses me the most. How on earth did you do this!? These kids are having a lot of fun posing for the photographer (for a brief second or two) and you captured this shot better than any photographer I know could have. This shot pushes the limits of technical skill. You never cease to amaze me!
Stan

Dag, Henk.

Beautiful motion blur image. You captured the instant perfectly.

Color and post processing is well done. Composition, as always seems to be the case with your images, is superb.

Hi Henk,

Amazingly sharp for a panning shot at 1/40 sec! I dont think I can do it that well at this speed. Great expression on the faces and good background colours.

Regards
Alfred

Hoi Henk,
perfecte panning en schitterende kleuren. Abrikozen, grijs-blauw en knalrood : prachtige combinatie. Zeer elegant.
Fulvio.

Hi Henk

Clever effect here - with the motion blur. Good panning.
It shows the more modern side of Cambodia - it is good to represent this side through photography as well.

true to your sports style, henk. from Assen to Phonm Penh. excellent panning everything super sharp.

Hi Henk.
An excellent snapshot.
The bike is correctly placed on the left with an empty space on the right.
Simply perfect.

Another great shot.
All the elements are in complete harmony here.
Instantaneous shot?

The post processing is good. The colour is well manipulated and the speed focus effect perfectly touched.

Ha! I like this one very much! The shot is technically great, the way you panned to freeze the bike while blurring the background. What really impresses me is the sense of life and fun communicated by the two girls - really makes the shot work!

Hi, Henk -

An amazing capture, both technically and for its subject matter. You managed to convey that they are moving fast while capturing them absolutely still.

Best,
Dan

Hi Henk!
Great picture, I always like your panning photos, you dispose the difficult technique brilliantly.
The sharpness of the motorbike and of the two girls is great and the contrast it makes to the background is just fantastic. Nice moment you captured here, just when the girls were looking into your camera :-)

Dag Henk,

Bedankt!

Groeten uit Vlaanderen,

WOw Henk, this is excellent. Love it. What a beautiful panning. THis is what I thought of taking from time to time. You made it here. Very nice. This is a typical Cambodian young generation now. And I really want to show it to the world. My fav. Well done. Sothy

Hi Henk,
or should I call you Mr. Panning? This one is just great, even better than your panning shot of the taxi driver which I thought couldn`t be exceeded. Great use of this very difficult technique, to my favorites!

Best regards

Hi Henk,

What a fantastic shot! A perfect crop, great looking contrasting colors, two smiling girls looking at the lens! Just a perfect and beautiful example of panning :)

Well done! Have a nice weekend,

Hi Henk,
Great daily life capture!
These young women dedicated you a wonderful smile, a deep glance and a humoristic sign.
In return, you made a great photo, with a lot of sharpness despite the movement of the motorbike, which is perfectly placed in your composition.
Well done!

A portrait while panning..that's what I can see from this picture and I can only say this is amazing!
The gesture, the smile and the expression..all of this, totally in motion and so natural..master class!
I think I'll have to study a lot your panning; being in Venice in a few days I'd like to try a panning with a gondola..but probably this sounds hilarious :o)
Thanks Henk.

such a great fun shot, Henk, it immediately makes me smile :) I like a lot the simplicity of the photo and how the contrast between the blurred background and pin-sharp details on the bike creates an effect that it's only the background that's moving :) although the flying hair of the passenger show differently. outstanding quality, but that's no surprise.

Hi Henk
so sharp and detail of the pictures very nice shot , wow I like so much and try to learn about take pictures like this , i never done it

take care

Seng

Dear Master Meijer,

This one was surely going a lot slower than your usual racers, but that doesn't mean it's easier to catch so perfectly. It's also frustrating to think that you are probably getting sharp panning shot once every 4 or 5 frames, while I have never been able to catch a single one with this level of accuracy.

The streamlined background allows the viewer to focus on your subjects without any form of distraction.

You had a funny reaction from these youngsters which adds some interest in the scene. You're note complement perfectly the image.

Cheers!

André

Quite fun, this photo, I love it ! This "V" sign is everywhere to be seen in south east Asia, sometimes I am really tired of it (specially when taking photos) but here, with the 2 girls looking at you with those beautiful smiles (hope there was no accident !), it's rather cute...
Great impression of movement and great simplicity for this photo, congratulations !
Best regards,
Cath.

Of course that is fun, Henk. This is a piece of cake, for you. And you made it seem so easy. After Laos and your lesson, I never tried this technique again. My favorite detail: the driver's twisted foot. I will never figure out why the 'V' fingers are used to comunicate with cameras so much...
Regards,
ricardo
