The Lifting Life

| These two men seem to strain under the weight of today's load. I am not sure what is in these boxes, but it seems heavy. Men like these make their living as "stickmen". This has been the common way to get products from "A" to "B" in the city of Chongqing. The city, over the years, was built up from the shores of the Yangtze river ... along very steep hillsides. Standard modern means, on wheels, for product movement is difficult. Thus hauling items on a shouldered pole or stick has been engaged. It is a means that has been used for centuries. Even in todays more modern, motor driven systems, these men are the least expensive way of item transport. I am always impressed with their endurance, stength, and willingness to try and transport/carry almost anything. |

Interesting documentary shot, well framed. It's good to place this kind of perspective on China, especially now with all this hoopla and showtime they are putting on at the Olympics.
thanks,
CT
Superb everyday scene, it really teaches a lot about China, and even the slight grain makes the picture more exotic.
Great timing and composition.
Hello David,
A very good documentary shot that shows the 'real china'and not the hoopla around Beijing and the Olympics. These people are incredibly hard workers and I have a lot of respect for them.
Nice clarity and colour.
