Photographer's Note
There are many iconic products of traditional China and silk is one of them.
Inside a tourist tour we were obligated to visit a plant of silk. It was an old plant and we saw the phases of production, including that cards with holes sending information to the machines where would be impressed drawings in the fabric, that was the primitive idea to create computers software.
Here we can see some cocoons of silk, the animal is cooked alive to preserve the thread.
There is a legend telling a princess was taking tea when a cocoon of silk fell down in her cup and she discovered the use of the thread.
My state of Paraná is an important producer of silk, and I saw this live, in the farms, but when I told this for another tourist he watched me as if I was lying.Of course each place has to deal with the stereotype created about it for the others.
China is the larger producer and Brazil is the 5th, but our thread is the best of the world.
..........

Atenciosamente

Hello Jorge
Of course you think of China in the first place if you are talking about silk.
You do not realize that there are plenty of other places on this earth where the Bombyx mori, can also eat plenty of the Morus alba.
Nice promotion for the quality of the Brazilian side.
Well done
Have a good weekend, groet Rob

Hello Jorge,
Another interesting capture/entry in your gallery.
Both photographycally and informative perfect TE job.
In my chidhoos we had a giant mulberry tree in our garden and this was a good reason for us to start keeping silkworms. But when I noticed how those coccoons was been thrown in cooking water with the worms inside, my interest turned to a hatrate to all silk producers.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Jorge, that pile of silk cocoons create a beautiful visual result. The silk industry is ancient in China, in the Antiquity only the Chinese knew the secret of silk manufacturing. The worms were introduced centuries after in many countries of the world thanks to merchants like Marco Polo. To visit a silk plant during an excursion should be rewarding.

Hello Jorge, an informative note that goes side by side with this interesting picture.
What is astonishing is how many of these cocoons are needed to make a length of silk cloth!
I have learnt today, that Brazil is an important producer of silk.
Regards Jean.
