Photographer’s Note
Taken in a very small farming village about 60kms out of Balingmiao. It was cold, very cold, with the strong Mongolian wind continually blowing. It had been snowing heavily in previous days and the old man was standing outside in the sun warming up.
The farm house is like most farm houses in China, made of mud. Only recently have many been rebuilt with bricks and cement.

Hello Malcolm.
A good record of daily life in this village. I've seen men standing about like this in many countries, sometimes waiting for the pubs to open, as in Ireland. But somehow I don't think that is what this fellow was doing; surely you are right in saying he's just enjoying a quite moment in the winter sunshine. I like the rather stark presentation of the building behind him, with its cracks, ramshackle wiring, makeshift window covering, and peeling posters. The shadows are pleasing.
Regards,
Andrew
