"Welcome to the People's Republic of China" as the train slowly crosses the border from Russian into Chinese territory.

This is Manzhouli - the border crossing in the "Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region" just a few feet across the border into China.

This picture is taken from the window of the Trans-Siberian Express (having just travelled from Moscow) on its weekly journey en-route to Beijing.

The contrast between Russia and China is stark: from barren fields on the Russian side (see far left) to a futuristic metal statue and many buildings on the bustling Chinese side. The red Chinese peoples' flag is observed blowing high in the wind.
