Photographer’s Note

A man selling a rabbit in a market street in Hohhot city, Inner Mongolia. Some members of TE may be disturbed by the fact that the rabbit more likely ended up as a meal rather than as a children's pet. I'm sorry about that.
This picture from 1986 was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

this was the time when the ordinary chines still where dressed in "Mao uniform" today it's seldom you se them.
well rabbit for dinner is maybe a bit hard for weakhearted but still nothing compared to what you see on other places in China ( Cats, dogs and rats) remeberd when I told someone in Peking that there fellow people in Canton was eating cats they got very insulted and told me that it wasn't true.
Good portait anyhow .

Dag Gert,

Interesting to see your retro shots. I remember clicking on the bicycles, but somehow I missed this one. Rabbits do make good meat, but the man and the glimpse of old Hohhot in the background are a lot more interesting to me. Were you in Hohhot as a journalist? Good quality scan.

Yes, I´m really upset of the fact that people eat rabbits! Don´t you have any photos of snakes ending up as meals rather than pets instead?

I'm very sorry for the rabbit(s), too... and all those little animals in general that end up as people's meals :-/ I can't imagine my cat being eaten!:((

Anyway, apart from that, it's a good capture of a daily life episode. Well, for some people it's exotic, for some it's harsh reality..
Good composition, good contrast and colours. The man's face is in the shade but it can be seen clearly enough. One more (psychological) portrait to ponder on (if one bothers to, of course)!
