The Glacier

Going to Lhasa from Shigatse (about 347km) by road,
after a while, just beside the road, at over 5.000 m, is the Karola Glacier, with an area of 9.4 sq km, is only 300 m from the road,so, it is the glacier closest to a highway in Tibet, lying in the northern section of the Himalayas

Climate change is raising the temperature in Tibet by as much as a third of a decade a year – that's twice as fast as the rest of the world.
The Karola glacier is said to be melting -in some years- as fast as seven per cent a year.

The Photo
I was deciding which way to photograph the glacier, only the landscape?
With the flags prayers as a frame?

Then the woman arrived and smiles at me, just so, I added her and her cute baby at the capture
Just by signs I asked where did she lived and she pointed a very precarious, humble kind of Ger or tent, not far from the glacier
So a desolated place, a very hard live far from what I call civilization, quite isolated and with a happy and spontaneous smile...

Hello Maria,

What an engaging photo from high on the plateau in Tibet. I think it was a good decision to include the mother and child in this remote location. It appears that they use Chinese characters in their writing. Is there a written language there in distinction to Chinese?

Nice photo...I like the POV a lot .

I can understand the msg you are giving through your pic....i have been to lot of trek in Himalayan region & for sure people staying there are much more contend in life than us with very limited resources .

fascinating the view of the glacier with the white small coloums and the native woman on the foreground in an excellent balance.I like the light and the colour management as the contrast of the colours.

Hola Maria,
charming composition combining the spectacular landscape and the cultural aspect. The woman with a child make a great foreground also complemented with the textx in the foreign alphabet which enhances the exotic feeling even more. They also add a lot of color to the scene.

Its well composed, good viewpoint and placement taking the eyes through the scene emphasising the strength of colors to draw viewers. Such an interesting location for a shot but she stole the show for sure, being the main star of the event in striking colors backed lovely snow mountain an in the background. A nice environmental image in bright daylight. Excellent effort, TFS

These simple people with not much luxury always seem to be happier than the people with everything. They must have found inner peace and I like the way they spread positive energy around them. A beautiful smile for the person who shows love and kindness. Maria, you have been nice to her and she is giving back the same thing you gave her. A lovely image of this mother and child with nice colors and local cstume.

Fabulosa panoramica, con la impactante imagen del glacial al fondo, el primer plano nos brinda ogualmente otro placer...., el precioso retrata de este mujer con su bebe, el colorido de sus ropas, junto a las banderolas y esos escritos en chino, dan un toque fantastico de color y exotismo.
Un trabajo impecable, con buena luminosidad, nitidez y colorido.

a fine photo for TE, its a great cultural scene.
you were lucky too to have the woman and her child walk into the frame. My only critique would be to be aware of tall vertical posts! the post is coming straight up out of the woman's head! :)

Je pense que la composition est un peu chargée.
Certe la présence de la dame est intéressante, mais je pense que tu aurais du faire une photo supplémentaire en privilégiant la vue du glacier.

I'm so glad you included everything in your lovely photo! The landscape is very interesting and the glacier most impressive, they make a magnificent background and say a lot about living conditions in this part of the world. The prayer flags and signs show how people have associated spiritual quests with this remote place. The lady and her baby with their colourful clothes and close bond specify the human presence there in a marvellous and heart warming way. It's wonderful how her lovely warm smile becomes the most attractive point in the composition outshining the suggestive glacier and all. We received it so superbly thanks to your apt and effective lighting. I also love the vividness of the blue sky topping the composition. A wonderful picture, congratulations and thank you!
