| The Long Corridor runs alongside the Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace this image is of the underside of the roof along the corridor. The site dates back to the 12th century, however the buildings on the present day site only date back to 1902 following destuction of the original buildings on the site by the Anglo-French invasion of Beijing in 1900. The Summer Palace became a classical Chinese Garden. After 1908 the palace was no longer used by the Imperial Family and in 1924 it became a public park. There are photographs on display of the Empress Cixi who frequented the Palace during its last days under Imperial Control. |
