| Knowledge brings in Enlightenment and well being..the more we know the more we are enlightened.....thats the whole idea behind celebrating the Hindu festival of Saraswati [goddess of knowledge] Pujo [worship ceremony]...the scene that you see here is that of a very common Bengali household, celebrating Saraswati Pujo..you can see the idol of the goddess [OOF] in the background....but I chose the flame as the subject just to concentrate on the whole idea behind the ceremony -- the lamp here is a symbol of knowledge, enlightenment and well being....the lamp [called "Pradip" in Bengali] that you see here is made of clay baked in fire [part and parcel of any Indian festival]..there is a string dipped in GHEE [or Indian butter] which is lit up at the end to create the flame..... |
