Not ssssoo fassssssssssst...
Ssssswing that flute sssssslowly, my boy
Let the sssssuckerssss dig into pocketsssss
For a verrry big wad of rupeesssssss....

[A little boy charmer attracting customers at a local railway station. No real tourists, just simple local folks who like to watch these cobras dance]

[To affect a snakey view, I indulged in a bit of gradient fill, with blue-yellow in RGB--you see Naja can see infra red! ;-)]

[Thanks a lot, folks for so many encouraging comments. Many of you are dissatisfied with the PP. So I uploaded the original file. See the next post for a different interpretation of this same scene]

There are some obvious technical issues, but nothing will stop me from loving this photograph and thinking I am, once again, looking at a masterpiece. I feel like a snake and am actually hypnotized by your image. Sssssssssuperb.

Animessssshhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Did YOU take this? First of all, it looks like a shot from the turn of the last century, not from two weeks ago. Second, that cobra is threateningly near.... I would have been tempted to make the contrast more pronounced but perhaps it would have defeated your purpose. Very enchanting....
Can you tell me what is on his fingernails?
Good night,
sasa

You are going in more depth of Indian life..& some real core Photography..

Kobra & "Sawera" ...a Treadmark of India for foreignr..
Focus on cobra & some rough bokeh & grain on back scene..
Tight freaming..
Intresting work..
-Regards,

I have enjoyed your India shots lately but this one take the cake, somehow I also feel hypnotized, the closeness of the snake, the whole feel of this photo is amazing. I am getting a feeling that this boy should be paying more attention towards the cobra instead of looking every other way, a bit like driving a car.
I am truly looking forward to seeing the image before you butchered it with your post processing ;-)

You're doing a Luko here (I'm referring to his memorable, recent "hand tatoo" thing. Smart use of selective focus as one's eyes slide down down the vertical frame until we can rest on that serpent head. Extremely well done.
Cheers,
Francis

Fine image. A different twist to a cliched photo idea. The boy's eyes I find more interesting than the snake.
Salil

Snake my worse phobia ... I should have stayed away from this picture.

Yes, hypnoptical eyes, not from the snake but rather from the kid. Nice capture of 2 pairs of eyes ...

Yes the postprocessing is weird here, lack of contrast on the kid's top part and a kind of Sabatier's effect on his hands, nails ... A Sabatier effect or an X-Ray (extra Ray) effect ;o)).

Thanks, Alain -

Itsssssssss brilliant, got a solarized feel to the frame. TFS !

yeah, "Trussssst in me" sang Susheela Raman.

I'm both fascinated and deeply repulsed with snakes, I instantly freeze with fear but I admit touching them and feeling their warm soft skin is quite an experience. I also wouldn't exchange my ticket for a good snake show like the Thais generally set up.

Sloppy processing or...

Though I might see something of Sohrab's shots in this one, with the deep dark eyes and a feeling of escaping out of time : something that will ever be there in the deep of India but that only the ones in the know can catch.

That was in my plans to shoot a good snake charmer image, but I didn't get any snake charming opportunities except the ones in costumes you see at the entrance of Humayun's tomb or other fancy places, with a background of tourist buses... this will be definitely on top of my to do list in my next indian trips.

The more I look at it, the more I wonder whether this processing is finally not the most appropriate, except maybe on the hands.
It oozes something Kipling-esque, probably coming from the softness... and yes his eyes are so mesmerizing, HE is the snake in this image..

coming back a few weeks after i added this to my favs (sorry too busy lately) to praise this.. i guess most have been said already, those eyes and the snake, the way it was composed... truly mesmerizing... your processing (what possessed you to decide on this particular pp?) is very bold, but i'd have to say it works (except maybe the "shadows" on his hand).. the overall softness makes it really timeless... off to india for a month in march where can i find these snake charmers?
