This photograph is of the Historical and Nostalgic(for past trekkers to sandakphu) Trekkers Hut at Sirikhola which is the last but one halt for trekkers to Sandakphu.
Siri is the name of the river and Khola mean river.Sirikhola is almost 12 Kms from Sandak phu and 4 Kms from Gurdum. This place comes while coming down from Sandakphu and is 6 Kms far from Rmbick from where trekkers can take transport back. There is a bridge of approximately 30 Mts length which u can see at the left side of the hut over the river .
The Trekkers hut use to belong to the DGHC(Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council)but recently it has been privatised and has been given to Glenary's Gateway(Glenary is the famous bakery and a fast food jointon the mall in Darjeeling). It use to be run by Jigme Tsering who now runs the Goparma resort in Sirikhola from where this pic has been taken. The trekkers hut is run By Mr. Rai and his family under the Glenary's gateway banner.
This place use to be a transit joint for trekker untill people realised the beautiof this place will hills and greenery all around and has become a kind of destination for people from Kolkata to get rid of the hustle and bustle of city life. The rooms of this trekkers hut are well maintained and does incite a alpine feeling while staying here. They have two rooms on top with attched bath priced at Rs.500 which can be negotiated to Rs.300 and dormitories at Rs. 80 per bed which can be negotiated at Rs 50 per bed.Lights is a problem here with the generator being on only from 8 to 930 at night and also the water is scarce.
People have started to come to Rimbick stay there for one day and then procedd to sirikhola stay there and then back. These kind of packages are at full flow in the season. The river here falls at a good gradient and the shear roaring of the river is great at night with a jungle kind of feeling. The trek from Rimbick to this place is of 6 Kms and families can easily undertake this trek and enjoy the beauty of this place while reaching Sirikhola.Transport is there for about 4 kms and then one has to trek traversing the mountains and also a small jungle before u reach Sirikhola.
For further information on packages to this place You can contact me. |

Bonne journée.

Hi Indranil,
a peaceful image so far away from what we would call civilisation. Lovely geometric lines made by the triangular shaped roofs and good colours in the foreground. A fine image and well seen.
Regards
Stephen
Hi Indro,
This is a lovely place and the trekker's hut amidst nature is a ideal place....reminds me of Suntanekhola somehow.Do u have any snap of the river Srikhola?
Greetings,
Dhurjati
