Chuikhim - Leesh Chu: 'Chu' means the river in the local languages commonly spoken in Sikkim and North Bengal. The Chuikhim main village is situated at one of the hill slopes but the entire Chuikhim valley is spread across a few more hills.
A thin stream of water flows through these hills which is the main source of water to these villagers. The river water is used for drinking, washing as well as irrigation. Every village household whichever corner of the region they live have to climb down thin hill trek routes to the river to collect water for their needs.
Weather in these hills is very interesting, you may enjoy bright sun in one of the hills and watch rains in a hill across you.
This photograph was taken when there was a huge cloud formation on the hill we were at but it was sunny on the other side. |
