For this moment and for the next 4 hours my name was solomon de costa...from phillipines...and the reason was this huge sea of agitators of Gorkha Jana mukti morcha (GJM) gathered in Darjeeling in their demand for a separate state, and participate in a 4 day shutdown that threw life out of gears, and more importantly stranded more than 100 tourists in Darjeeling itself...when the administration was busy trying to get the foreign tourists out of this mess, i sneaked in...there was a corner down there somewhere where they had put up a registration counter...we had to enter our names there (only foreigners!!!) who will be escorted down so that no one else stopped us midway...with the help of some of the foreigners there i joined the gang as one of them, faked up myself as a phillipino, and escaped....those cars you can see on the top left corner were the ones used to carry us down to Siliguri...The next 4 hours was full of anxiety...there were roadblocks after roadblocks...we were stopped at some, some let us go....But I was so scared of being caught and dragged out!!! i felt bad for some 200 odd local people who wanted to get away from this chaos, but they couldn't as no car was arranged for them...i later heard all food supply and medicine to the hills was cut off for at least next 3-4 days...

Do you know Marillion? Nothing to do with photography, except that they have a great song with the same title than your shot :) Yes, we have to be open, and the most important in this world is welfare of everybody!
