It's a dog's life all right, as most artisans in Kumortuli are prone to complain. This is a dingy place in North Calcutta, with labyranthine and utterly filthy lanes and bylanes. The paths are a couple of feet narrow, filled as they are with earthern idols of Hindu gods in various stages of finish, covered with torn plastic sheets. With the major Hindu festivals starting from September onwards, the idols approach their final finish towards July- August, months with teh heaviest rainfall in Calcutta. I am yet to fathom how these dried clay idols survive the rains in near-open conditions.
Each year the artisans complain of the inhuman conditions, of rains washing away their efforts, of how this year they will be hard-pressed to finish the thousands of idols in time. But in Calcutta, the Pujas still go on fine each year! Divine blessings, or plain 'dog'ged luck? You decide. Meanwhile, it continues to be a dog's life at Kumortuli.

Hi, Ritobroto,
Interesting scene. Good that its blak and white. I think in color impression will not be that one.

Hi Ritobroto and welcome to TE,
One has the impression that this dog turns its back on progress, he wants to be quiet in his little life...of dogs.
An interesting composition with the work of sculptor in the background.
Regards
Philippe
Ritobroto- indeed a very innovative take on 'Kumortuli' life- I've known this place through TE only. I like how the artist looks across the street to find you shooting- perfect start to ur TE journey.
Apart from the image, I specially want to appreciate your note. You seem to be creative thru not only you lens but also thru pen.
Maintain the potential shown. Welcome...
Rgds,
Darpan
Lovely picture, I like the contrast of the darkness of the dog with the grey of the rest; your notes are appropriate...
Ciao
Stefano
Hi Rito,
Welcome to T.E. Great shot & POV. The sublime grey tone is adding to the mysticism of kumortuli. Keep posting.

hey Ritobroto, The caption is very apt... the photographer's note has added even more value to it..
