Destination Lepchajagat -
Escaping from the scorching summer heat of Calcutta, the quick name that comes to all minds is Darjeeling. But ooppss!!! from one overly crowded place to another makes no sense.
At a moment when we were debating on going to a place which will provide pleasant weather, would not take too many days to reach and should be peaceful and have some breath taking natural views. We came across a name called Lepchajagat.
Its a small hamlet 8 kilometers away from Ghoom on the way to Ghoom - Mirik road. On the way to Darjeeling from NJP, just 8 km before, you will reach a junction called Ghoom. Here the road bifurcates into two, one taking you to Darjeeling and the other goes to Mirik.
Lepchajagat is situated on the Mirik road at about another 8 KM from Ghoom.
Its a small village of around 10 - 15 houses and the only place for tourists to stay is a Forest Bunglow of the West Bengal Govt Forst Dept. The bookings for the bunglow is easily available from the WBFDC website ans also theur offices.
The beauty of Lepchajagat is that is provides wonderful natural views, calm and quite stay at the bunglow, yet as Darjeeling is just 16 KM away you may take any vehicle coming from Mirik to darjeeling and quick hop at Darjeeling for the afternoon, stroll around the Mall and again get back to serenity after evening.
This photograph was taken from the car, while we were going to Sukhiya pokhri from Lepchajagat. Each twist and turn of the road was so picturesque that the driver got frustrated and denied to stop the car at each turn, so had to take this shot almost from a moving vehicle. |

Probably one of the trademark pictures of lepchajagat. Very well captured.
The mist always creates a surreal effect.
