Photographer’s Note
Picture: The Kalatop Sanctuary Forest House was built in 1925 and remains one of the best maintained Forest houses in Himachal Pradesh. Visitors can stay for a fee INR 300-350 a night. Kalatop is about 30 mins drive from Dalhousie. The drive, once inside the reserve, is not for the faint-hearted. The entire way to the Forest Rest House from the monitoring gate is a one-vehicle-wide dirt lane, with deep fall on one side. Walk if you are afraid to drive. Take a seasoned driver/guide along.

Dalhousie is one of the oldest hill stations in India. Originally established by the British, who forbade Indians to enter the town, Dalhousie witnessed major confrontations between the British and the Indian mutineers during the Revolt of 1857. Dalhousie remains a cantonment area and a quiet, picturesque hill station dotted with old British-era buildings and newer constructions. The lush green valley looks out to the Pir Panjal mountain range; and at night, the lights from the valley below and the hills surrounding it brings back memories of a lost fairy-tale.
Dalhousie is approx. 8 hours by train + 2.5 hours by cab from Delhi.
