Photographer's Note

This is one of the remotest places I have ever been, 3 days walk from the nearest town (Padum), and a further 2 days by road to anything that could be considered a city. So quiet, and such a stark landscape. Nothing much grows wild here without the hardwork of the locals, as can be seen from the distant mountain slopes. Even so every piece of flat land with any kind of water supply is used, like a little oasis in the desert.
Life continues here as is has for centuries, almost undisturbed by the outside world. And what a hard life it is, with no electricity, no mechanization. This area is completely cut off in the winter, and temperatures plummet to absurd lows.
It is like another world.
