Photographer's Note

Today I say goodbye to the Ladakh region of Indian Kashmir state, probably forever. I have more or less run out of acceptable photos, but I find it reasonable to finish with two B&W pictures from my journey by road back to the state capital Srinagar.

I had arrived in Ladakh by bus but had planned to fly back, either to Srinagar or straight to Delhi to save time. But no plane tickets could be confirmed in Leh, so all presumptive passengers had to be on a waiting list. And I was pretty far down the list. So on my day of departure I had to watch Indian travellers board the flight, while I and four other foreign tourists were among those left behind.

The five of us formed a little group, negotiated a journey with a taxi driver with a jeep, stocked up on food and water and set out on the long journey back to Srinagar.

Today's main photo was probably taken not too long after we had left Leh. I guess we stopped here because everyone wanted to take pictures of these two men and their horses.

Here is a larger version.

Another photo down the road can be seen in the WS. Both photos were scanned from Ilford FP4 B&W negatives.

I had planned to move to an entirely different part of the world starting with my next upload, but to my own big surprise I will remain in the region for a while.
