When you're in a small town, what is the single clearest distinguishing factor that tells you whether you're in a developing versus a developed country? I'd say it's the farm animals in the streets--chickens or pigs or other assorted livestock allowed to wander freely.

Here, I asked my driver to stop so I could take a picture of the wide, dusty and empty main street of this small town between Delhi and Agra. Immediately it was no longer empty of people, as children seemed to appear from nowhere and run towards the taxi to see who these strangers were.

Hi, my friend!
Interesting view. I never been in India. It is pitty. It is my dreem. Good composition and good idea. I think only so dark in down part of photography and so light in hight part. But view is very interesting.

Hi ken. Very nice shot of village life in north india.

Hi Ken
a nice shot about the life in the rural villages. Animals are living with the children. Interesting report.

Ken: there's something really appealing about this one for me - perhaps because it is so ordinary - a true frame of your milieu without too much effort, but with great, spot on details: POV and DOF. regards, c

The dramatic scaling wide make this daily scene with moody misty colors feel yourself at the place like described by Jose, a fine documenting shot Ken.

Hi Ken,

A good note accompanying this photo, with the observation about farm animals running amock. The colors are certainly true to the location, in short, a good scan. Finally, the simple frame complements the image well. In a quest to find a good recipe, I've gone back and forth between, frame, no frame, elegant frame, simple frame. And I believe it has to be done on a case by case basis. One of the most elaborate frames is offered by ugur, a compatriot of mine, Dudem Waterfalls

Regards,

Bulent

Hi Ken
thats a great compo with excellent depth. just love the centre position of the foreground subjects and those people dotted at the back, somewhat minimalstic to me. and the atmosphere is great with the dusty ground dominatin the frame. good documentary.
Cheers

Excellent notes to go with this very honest capture (been there, done that).
Thanks for this slice of life

Very interesting composition. Rugged and desolate in the early morning. Those tracks on the soil make this image for me. Excellent color.

Oh Kev, am sorry I have missed quite a few of your brilliant recent uploads. I am choosing this now to comment on, for it is again a proof that centrality can and does work in composition, be it humans, animals, or inanimate objects. The space is very finely balanced with these hogs on the dirt road and the boys playing in the back. Love the fine earthy colours too.
Good night

Oh boy! Another shock now! After your busy street, I come upon this almost empty street, but seemingly with the same kind of atmosphere in it ('yellow' hazy sky). And still, the feeling of "another world"... It is quieter, but maybe just temporaly, there is life coming to meet us again.
Your photos are usually really good to give us an idea of the atmosphere. I don't know why, but it is my feel each time I look at one of your photos. Maybe one day, I will understand that great mystery! ;)
Claire

One of your best...
The atmosphere of this place must be exactly as you have portrayed...
This is one of those TRUE pictures...The recorders...The witnesses of our times...Of our places on earth...
Gosh...It evoked my imagination...
What...? Who..? Why ??????????????????
These people living out there..?????????
Brain storm of never answered questions...
Thanks, Ken.
It is a feast for my hungry zest for the world's politics and social affaires..
A delightful feast, if I may add…

All the best, dear buddy

george

You've captured the relatively quiet and dusty atmosphere of this small town very well in this image, Ken. I like the inclusion of the boy racing towards you down the street - looking for a few rupees no doubt. The pigs don't seem to be very interested in you though ;)
Cheers . . . David
