On the early morning of the 24th we set out for Nathula from Gangtok. There are numerous Mahindra Max jeeps which take tourists to Nathula.Arrangements have to be made a few days in advance to seek permission from the authorities to visit the international border.
Our driver had informed us about the strenous journey and the subzero temperatures for which precautions have to be taken especially given the fact that we are from the plains.
On the way, about 2 hours drive from Gangtok the surroundings began to get changed;the road became more and more steep and winding, the hills became less verdant and the chill in the air began to make itself felt.
Shortly we were leaving the more populous settlements behind and down below spiralling our way up through the wilderness. |
