Photographer's Note

Another view of coconut trees and backwaters from kerala. This time this is from Thanni lake which is very near to Mayyanad railway station. This place is very rarely visited and very calm and quiet. The boat you saw here ferries people and goods to the other shore. Goods include mainly coir and its products
Kerala is the home of Indian coir industry, particularly white fibre, accounting for 61 per cent of coconut production and over 85 per cent of coir products. Although India has a long coastline dotted with coconut palms, growth of coir industry in other coastal States has been insignificant.Coir has been produced for centuries in Kerala and even today this traditional industry provides employment to many people, especially women
