Photographer's Note

I walked the floor of the nave of St. Augustine's Church on Holy Hill. Near to the front, there is a collection of memorials of hidalgos long deceased, presumably buried beneath, but the memorials are still fresh despite exposure to the elements. This one refers to a man deceased in 1621 CE.

Words from the poem by Mary Elizabeth Fry came to mind,

"When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there; I did not die."

from "Do not stand at my grave and weep", 1932
