Alwar tank at dusk
 |
|
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
| Dusk in Alwar. In India, tanks are used for drinking, washing, and bathing. The tank is 50 feet deep, and filled. I was told a family making a puja (holy ceremony), held hands and walked in to bathe, drowning in the unexpected deep water the year before. To the right is the once mighty palace, now government offices, musuem and ruins. To the left are previous homes of the rich. Straight ahead is a huge beautiful centograph (building to commemorate his death) of a maharajah, with carved marble foot prints of both him and his favorite wife. Because she loved to dance, he ordered footprints instead of a bloody or ochre handprint to mark her sati upon his death. She jumped into his cremantion fire to leave this life with him, and return together again. (Pictures are so little, as I am taking them from my yahoo photos, I have no current way to transfer new photos). |

Too dark, isn't it? I'd like to see this with better light.
The note is interesting.

Hi, Gloria, the photo is very small indeed, but still worth to see while following your description...each element on the photo very interesting and full of meaning...I hope the maharajah's wife will return...what a way to die..
The picture is definitely too dark; so it's difficult to follow the different places you talk about in your very interesting note.
I understand you don't have easy conditions to work in.
Anyway, I have tried a WS. I hope you like it.
Cheers. Marie Louise.
