Sam Sand Dunes are situated at a distance of approximately 42 km from the city of Jaisalmer. Located in the midst of the Thar Desert, these sand dunes are amongst the most famous ones in Rajasthan.

One of the most pleasurable moments comes at the time of the sunset. Watching the sand dunes in the faint orange glow of the sun with the ballads of the legendary lovers playing in the background leaves you completely speechless. But I have to say, this place is extremely commercial & the camel drivers can be a bit too enterprising ;-)

The Sun blinked & yawned,
Time to rest, as another day neared its end
The dunes changed colours,
From green to red and gold,
Turquoise to azure
As if trying to seduce the sun away from setting.
The shadows paused, awed by the desert’s resplendence
Longer and longer they grew,
holding on to each other;
For night was drawing near
And they would soon melt away,
swallowed by the darkness of the desert...

Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and darkness which that thing provides.

Hi Angshu!
Fantastic selfportrait....
Good composition with the small stripe of blue sky on top and these looooooong shadows.Magic light and wonderful orange desert tones.I like very much the texture of the dune in the foreground.
Have a nice weekend my friend,

A classic. A little more sky and it would be perfect. Good work.

Exquisite light Angshu, the sadows against the sand texture are really eye catching.

Bonjour Angshu
Love the long shadows standing out well against the sand dunes and the light/shade contrast. Including a bit of the sky was a good idea!
Have a nice day
Marilyn

Whoa...! I guess you took this from the back of the camel! The shadow looks like Dali's elephant on stilts. The light on the dunes is gorgeous, especially all those ripples in the foreground. Good work

Hi Angshu,
A nice compo taken at the right time when shadows hit their longest! What legs! The camel man also looks very long! I suppose you are the one sitting on it? Nice wavy texture of the FG sand...
Good one
Laurent

Hi Angshuman,
Fantastic capture and aptly titled. Great POV in using long shadows. The contrasting sand also added texture to the image. Well composed ... excellent work! tfs
Cheers,

Hello Mr. B,

Your versatility never ceases to amaze. This time an image from Rajasthan, illuminated by the grazing angle of the sun. I like the abstract elongated figures created by the shadows. You have somehow eliminated the commercialized aspect — no one except the camel, rider and the camel's handler is in view. The rope that the handler is holding is seen subtly.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Finally, it's not so usual to find great shots from Sam Dunes. And you did it inspired !!
These huge shadows are excellent and the light and colors are perfect. Well done.
Stéphane

Hi Angshuman,
Fantastic graphical effect of these shades on the golden sand of the dunes. It is a very attractive, illuminated well composition, with a beautiful game of lights and shades and with a few very well saturated colors.
Great setting, very balanced and in that you have left a small space for the blue sky in the picture.
A beautiful work, my friend.
Best regards,
Josep

Hi Angshuman

I like the long shadows of the camel, and the textured patterns in the sand. Good colour contrasts between the red & blue. Tfs!

Hi Angshuman,

The point of view leads our eyes toward infinity. The light of the sunset is giving nice colors to the sand, sky and a set of shadows of the camel and persons in the foreground. The scenery is giving a sensation of tranquillity. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Hi Angshu. My only comment is that about my being privileged to see this shot sitting close to you in a warm Delhi day a fortnight back. Liked then. Liked now. Shall like for ever. Regards.

Stunning image Angshuman. I like the man and the camel spreading across the detail of the foreground. Very original and very well done. Best regards. Jusni

Hi Angshu .
J'aime beaucoup ce jeu d'ombres sur le sable de la dune. Le relief en ridules creusées par le vent donne un bel aspect au premier plan.
Une très belle photo !

Hi Angshu
This is a very interesting composition issued from a grat idea.
Nice game with lights and shades.
And of course a goo exposure management.
Cheers.

Very original shadow of the camel on the yellow sand (which has a beautifull color). It clearly reminds me of Dali's long legged elephants.

All the best,

Emmanuel

interesting exaggerated shadow perspective. i like it. a shadow of an overly enterprising camel driver and what seems to be an extatic tourist on the camel back ;)) was it you on the camel, by the way? :)) i like the light and texture, my friend. well caught.

Someone told me once, "shadows look longer in the desert", and now, looking at your image, I see that it was true. I should have to go to one desert to look taller! ( Ha, Ha, Ha !)
Good job Angshuman :D

gilbert

Hi Angshuman. You have captured the essence of the dessert well in this shot. Great colour and good detail. Well seen and well captured. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Well, this is delighful Angshuman. Despite the overcommercialization of the place, you make it look like a wild one indeed.:-) A classic revisited, I love the textures like velvet, the wonderful warm colors and those exaggerated silhouettes make for a great graphical impact. You look like calligraphy:-).
I like your note too, poetic and informative.
Warm regards

Hi Angshu,

Please, allow me to thank you first for you visit to my modest gallery and leaving such flattering critique. I was very honoured to received it. I'm glad to read we have such a great common TE friend. :) I must admit I do not have a lot time to participate on TE lately, hopefully that will change soon, so I'm very grateful for you introducing me to your work. I had a quick glance at your gallery (I will take more time in days to come), just to notice your great development in photography in past two years. A real inspiration for us, beginners! I choose this one to comment since I'm colour and shadow lover. All aspects of this shot are in such harmony, from colour contrast, smooth shadowed sand and outlined silhuettes of small caravan. The silhuette of a man is outstanding, so slim and elegant that I thought to myself when seeing it that I would not mind having a sculpture of appearance like that in my home. Simply fantastic! Capture of art if I may say so.

Warm regards,
Jeri

Hi Angshu,
May I wish you a belated Happy Birthday?

The looong shadows of the camel and the minder aggainst ther red sand make a really good compo. That line of blue sky gives the perfect contrast.
HLJ, Pat

Hi Angshu, nicely seen, the long shadows are unusual and efficiently arranged in the compo, I esp. like how you caught the shadow of the guy, in kind of curve coming from the side. The light is pretty. Regards, Daniel

Brilliant play with the shadows Angshu, and the textures and light of the sand are lovely.

Hi Angshu,
What a great composition. The desert for itself is impressive but the complement of the shadows made this shot unique. You even managed to avoid your own shadow. Bravo!!!

Hi Dear Angshu,

Thank you for your visit to my gallery before mine. I was away for a time and I coudln't connect to Internet but now I am back for a week and I see that your gallery is full of great shots like this one. The evening light on dunes which is only shadowed by the fantastic shapes, catches our eyes and takes toward the horizon. Amazing composition.
