Photographer's Note

We were camping in the himalayas last June. Our campsite overlooked a long range of himalayan peaks to the north. Unfortunately, the snow-capped peaks are obscured by a thick layer of dust and smoke from various forest fires; that night however, there was a hailstorm. Hailstorms are relatively common there, but sitting under a plastic tent with roaring winds tearing at the hooks and marble-sized ice balls threatening to rip the tent wasn't particularly comforting. After it was over at 6 pm, we took a walk to a nearby chai-shop, and asked for some khichdi (rice and dal). The shopkeeper sat us next to some hot coals (incredibly cozy, considering the frigid weather outside), and this picture was taken there, by the light of the coals.

We had great views of the himalayas the next morning (to be uploaded).
