The name of this village is Kibber. It is 10-15 km by road from Ki Monastery.
At an altitude of 4200 meters, one time this used to be the highest village in the world that one could drive to. I think now this title has been snatched away by some village in Tibet or in Spiti (India).
Population of Kibber is around 350 people

Best thing to do after the restaurant in the village closes at 9 PM is to gaze at the stars. Milky way looks like a thick white patch of cloud.

Critiques would be appreciated.
PP: Some sharpening, and brightness/contrast adjustments.

Cool shot. I'm looking on this site for decent places to visit when I get over to India. This place looks choice.

Hello friend, unfornutally i will never drive there... my car can stand highs ehehe it broke down last time i've tried to climb the highest moutain in Portugal, i've almost freezed and believe me... no way near 4200m high ;)

Somehow this photo looks "strange", it looks like you've runed an oil filter on it... strange but beautiful!

Mario

Hi Sarju,
This reminds me of the building blocks that children play with. Looks like toy houses from here. You got a nice POV there with good lighting. Guess it gets awfully cold out there...!
RAnjith

Sarju, what I like here is the fact that the village is free of snow and the surrounding covered in snow. I have to agree with Mario that for some reason the photo looks strange. Interesting to see statelite dishes!! Bala

Hi Sarju, Thank you for sharing this special picture with us which you have brought back from the high elevation village. I am amazed to see that they do have electricity and cars in the village. However, there is no forest and no farmland in the view. I wonder that how the villagers get their water and what are their main source of living and income ... just wonder and curious.
A well taken picture with nice POV and nice contrast.

Very interesting picture Sarju.
Very well captured from a high angle.
With oil or not oil on it, the picture is very good.
Good contrast and composition. Sharpness is excellent.
Well done.

Hello Sarju. A great view of this very high village. Quite amazing how the buildings all have a uniform look, but pleasing colours of brown and white. I like how you have placed the snowy foreground to a perfect width, giving balance and also a feeling of great depth to the scene. Very well composed and an excellent scan. Its definitely a keeper.

Hi Sarju.
I am always surprised by the lack or the paucity of snow in a place so high and in winter.I noticed the electricity pole then read your answers, and saw that you mentionned huge amount of snow.So I guess that if I were these peoples,I will choose a place where the snow doesn't accumulate.
I do have the same problem with photoshop, you have company.
As for the photo, you had a good POV in order to show us the whole place,it must have been a goog walk.
By the way,how is your job search?
Charles

Hi Sarju - I would have preferred without the power pole, but the magnificent other worldly landscape more than makes up for it. Beautiful traditional architecture and I really like how the snowy parts frame the village.

So very nice. I want to go! I love Tibet, it looks just like this.

A very special view! Very good photo!

Hi Sarju
Very nice photo.
I like the blue colours of the snow on the back.
Great DOF and very nice composition!

Well done

hello, interesting note and nice view of the small town. I will love to be there, it must be very peaceful, and the sky must be great. I found the houses curious and the way there are build too, are they this way to avoid win and cold ???
Thank you for making me discover this great place on the top of the world.

Hi Sarju,
Very nice view of this town. You chose a very good angle from the high. For sure must be a very interesting and different place to visit. I was wondering why don´t have snow on the hill with the houses. Maybe because this hill is faced straight to the sun exposure.
Thanks for sharing such cultural photo.

Photography & Geography. Keep on going Sarju.

Sarju I love this place. Not because its one of teh heighest in teh world but because of its character. It is amazing how nicel;y tucked in it is between teh mountains. What a reomot place. You sure have the pleasure of travelling alot.
Take a look at the workshop and see the difference that a little smart sharpening does to the details. Thanks for sharing. and as in your into I am not critiquing this photo because you visited my site. Its because I wanted to. Cheers to you Sarju!

Absolutely fantastic, these villages so high in the mountains, Sarju!
This has a special atmosphere, like from another world. The scenery is gorgeous, the POV is wonderful and you suceeded very well with the composition - I can not really understand if those lines on the side, are from cable lines, or the side of a wall limit of the mountain, but they worked very well in the image. Good work!
Thanks,
Cheers,
Ricardo

Hi Sarju. The complete lack of vegetation in this shot tells us straightaway that it must be at a great height, and the 'barren' feel to the whole shot is suggestive of great isolation. A very interesting post. Good composition - the extra sharpening in Paul's workshop works well. Cheers . . .
