REPOST: I recropped the photo to eliminate most of the background. I used Levels on selected parts of the face and body to bring out the highlights without adding artifacts, the Noiseware to reduce the noise and sharpen the image. Then I selected the background and took it out of focus with Gaussian blur.

I tried several techniques to cut the intensity of the blue bucket behind his shoulder, but in the end I had to clone it out. I smudged that area to remove traces of the cloning, and switched the mode from RGB to CMYK and back again, a technique that fixes outside the gamut. Finally I did another pass with Noiseware with no sharpening this time (it would have intensified the white hairs too much), and another touch of Levels for final effect.

A lot of work, but I think it's a better picture now. The comments here about the man's face convinced me it worth the effort.

PS to Batalay: Yes, a fill flash would have helped, had I thought of it. And if I'd had one. Or if I had shot this in Raw, I could have used the Fill Flash slider. I almost never use flash, but I can see where it can be useful, as here. Oh well, maybe next time.

Very nice job of PP work. Bonus to you for telling what you did. Lots of people keep that a secret and say they got it straight out of the camera! I like your pov and his expression. It looks like your blur got a bit of his hair but it could be something else behind him. He is very sharp. Very good job.

Now, it really looks good in colour and brightness. Cloning the buck was a very good decision. However, I have a question. What happened to his hair on top right? Your PP knowledge is very strong. Well done.
Antonio
