The boats name “Sri Anjaneya” is in honour of the Hindu deity Hanuman, who is also called Anjaneya (which means the son of Anjana). Hanuman is a vanara (literally translated as "human with the tail of a monkey") and is one of the most important personalities in the Indian epic, the Ramayana. One of his many great deeds was to aid Lord Rama (an avatar of Vishnu) in rescuing his wife, Sita from the Rakshasa king Ravana. It is a very involving story which I cannot do justice here…. Taken at the anchorage outside Kakinada, this boat brought us the customs & immigrations officials to clear our ship in to work in Indian waters in the Krishna/Godavari basin, Bay of Bengal. It is a common type of vessel used frequently all along the East coast. Aside from transferring officials, similar boats are used as harbour taxis and for the transport of stores etc. to & from the harbour.
Only post process was to sharpen a little before reducing the image size for posting. |
