| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
This picture was taken last month while driving to work to the nearby town.
It shows an abdoned "Dhaba."
Dhaba is a popular roadside eating joint in India and became extremly popular in the last 10-15 years. They serve tasty ethenic Indian food to the travelers on the highway. Initially created to cater to the truckers and motorists, have now become a rage in India and everyone vouches for their food.
Dhabas normally serve vegetarian food though there are now many which serve non-veg as well. The concept majorly started in Punjab is now a part of all India highways. Dhaba is a Punjabi word meaning eating joint. |

Hello Hemant,
Good documentary shot & notes. Good use of the trunk & branches to frame the Dhaba. The abandoned Dhaba can now serve as a nice shade from the sun. Regards. Latiff.
Thank you for this interesting photo and note, Hemant. Now I know at least part of the meaning of the Indian restaurant that I have often been to here in Melbourne, which is called 'Dhala da Dhaba'. By the way, there is another one nearby called the 'Hemant'.
Your photo is well taken to show the simple nature of the structure, and the atmosphere of dereliction that has taken hold here. Nice bit of framing is achieved by the branches of trees.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Andrew
Hey Hemant,
Fine documentary, I must say. Also a good, well com-posed picture. Keep it up with Ludhiana. :)
See you round.
Seeing a dhaba in your gallery, without any customer, intrigued me ; fortunately you explained in the note !
Interesting setting, interesting post - Still I prefer the ones a bit more animated, but here there is a certain nostalgic atmosphere (IMO),
Compliments,
Best regards,
Cath.
hi HG,
at first glance i thought this is one big rural oven that we have back home used to "cook" coconut meat into copra. but after reading your notes, i take that back....:-)
it doesn't seem to be IMO that sharp but the it is elegantly composed to include the tree on the right to make a 'natural' framing. i wonder if that tree is a jacarandra? good work!
Benedict
I have eaten at many...... and usually I enjoy the food very much!
