Photographer's Note

From Jaisalmer, there are many camel treks that explore the Thar Desert. In fact, EVERYBODY that sets foot in Jaisalmer will be offered by a tour operator, hotel clerk or restaurant waiter or random guy in the street or rickshaw driver... you see where I am getting at... one of the famous camel trek.

It is a lot of fun. Although I would not recommend more than a day of riding the camel. There is only so much pain my legs could endure!

I took this picture just before sunset. The camel has such a characteristic shape that it was easy to exploit, pretty much the same way I would shoot pictures of Moais in Easter Island.

You see clouds like this in the desert because, believe it or not, it rained that night we spent in the desert! So much for the promised star-filled sky! hihihi

Tidbits that we learned during the camel trek:

- The guides in the high season will work 24/7. They start at 11 AM with one group. Ride into the desert sleep there, and bring the group back to the original spot at 10:45 AM the next morning. From there the jeep comes with a fresh supply of tourists, and the guides start their journey again.

- We each paid 2000 rupees for the ONE DAY in the desert. We were 7 in my group. We had 5 guides. The Senior guy made 2000 rupees for ONE MONTH and the other 4 made between 1000 rupees and 1500 rupees for ONE MONTH. You do the math, the people that own those camels are making a load of money.
