I am just back from an eventful trip to the North bengal where on one side I got snow in Tumling and on the other hand had to rush my way down from the hills thru a harrowing journey of almost 11 hrs(which involved traveling in jeeps, trekking high gradient and crossing almost impossible river bridges) due to political instability in the region....
This shot is from a recent trip of mine to Darjeeling-The queen of hills in the lap of Eastern Himalayas.Everybody who has walked the mall have to identify these two artists from Nepal. The melody they have in their traditional songs and this instrument known as the Saringda is still there in my heart and mind.
Saringda is a bowed folk fiddle of the sarangi class. It is found in Northern India, Pakistan, and Nepal. There is actually no consensus as to whether this instrument deserves to be considered a separate instrument, or just another variation upon the sarangi. For those who are disposed to consider saringda to be a separate instrument, it is differentiated from the sarangi by its shape. The base of the saringda is rounded or pointed where the base of the sarangi is square. Furthermore, the neck has a different shape.
The size is highly variable. One to two feet in length is normal. One occasionally finds them larger than two feet, but as a matter of classification, such larger versions are generally referred to as "sarang" instead of "saringda" or "sarangi". There is really no agreement as to exactly what size constitutes a sarang, there is only agreement that the sarang is larger.
This shot is again from my 2mpx mobile cam...
I HAVE JUST ONE WISH........I WANT PEACE IN MY MOUNTAINS AND SONGS OF HAPPINESS IN EVERY PERSON'S HEART..!!!!!!

Hi Indro,
Your mobile cam series is getting better and better! Lovely expression of these two little musicians. The POV is also fantastic as it includes some portion of the passers by.
And of course, your informative note about 'Saringda' is really very useful. I can remember one version of it which is often noticed in Rajasthan.
Regards
Avishek

Hi Indranil
Very good composition and great POV. Its a very good shot from a mobile cam. It doesn't look like a shot taken from mobile cam. I think its bit over exposed toward the vanishing point of the road leading down but again it from mobile cam. You are very good at taking subjects. Hope to see more.
Regards,
Lopshang.
You brough smiles on the faces of the street singers.
Using your mobile like a canon you fired a beautiful stoke.
The composition is of high value and you made your mobile cam to work for you.
The mood and the shot appeals, Indro.
