Karanataka has many beautiful Hindu temples and old buildings. The most amazing place I visited was Hampi. Ancient Greeks wrote of the beauty and richness of Hampi. It was invaded in the 14th century by the Muslim army, across the river from the kingdom. The Hindu Maharajah attacked a Muslim ruler, and was killed in the battle immediately. His Hindu army ran back to Hampi, stole all the treasures. They left the local people to fend for themselves. It is said, it took the Muslim army 3 years to destroy all they could, and the carnqage was unspeakable. Still the beauty of HAMPI IS EVERYWHERE! Huge temples, Gods, and market places dot the strange rocky landscape to this day.
