[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Misery always seems to descend on the poorest folk. The men in Ijen volcano descend into the crater, breath toxic fumes, just to collect some sulfur which they have to carry back on their sore shoulders by baskets of 60 to 80 kg to the bootom of the volcano some 1 hour axway. And all that for a few rupees, just enough to buy food but too little to purchase proper shoes (some of them do this bare foot)
And because of the overexploitation of the volcano, it has been decided to stop this one day a week.
The volcano is worth seing but what we will remember most are the people working there.

Misere, misere

hello warren, I have to admit, that this is very impresive photo. It is fine that we can compare the objects via that worker. To be honest I regret that worker..., tfs to see for me "another" world.

This is an extraordinary effort for a few rupees. I have seen lots of hard work in Madura Island too. Your photo is excellent and that person gives the exact scale of the difficulty they have to stand every day. Well done.

Salut Warren,
Amicalement
Marc
