The temple of Batur was previously located near the south western slope of mount Batur.

The destructive eruption in 1917 ruined the temple and the head of the village along with the villagers brought the surviving shrines to higher grounds.
In 1927, the people of Batur rebuilt Ulun Danu Temple which once lay at the foot of the volcano. Most of the 285 planned shrines are yet to be completed.

What you see here is a detail of one of the shrines, still being rebuild. The colours are just wonderful and in a sense people find closure in the rebuilding of these shrines.

Hi Dennis
Great colorful detail of the temple door locks! Vertical framing well chosen and locks well placed in the frame. Sharp image as well...
Please check the forum topic Plundering Trekearth as i found a photo of yours on another website....
Friendly regards
Laurent

Ah I see we've posted photos today back to back!
I like this one for its bright range of colors. Going in close like this lets us see all the intricate and ornate detail in the door.
Another great close up!

A very nice bright photograph here of this door and lock.

It really jumps off the page with all the variety of colours. Good eye, and placement of the lock. What a beautiful door.

Hallo Dennis,

Een mooi en kleurrijk detail foto van de deur, ja heilgdommen moeten nu eenmaal beschermd worden, en als men er twee sloten aanleggen maakt dit wel wat indruk, mooi scherp ook.
Bedankt.

Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John.

Hello Dennis! Well, I see why you took the photo: the colours are so eye-catching (and very natural in your shot). I like the way the lock is focused and the door panel behind it isn't, but somehow I'd like to see that same effect in the lower part of the door. The cropping is very well chosen, giving space to the two flowers on the left. Maybe I find the lock a bit too high in the photo, although I like the verticality you transmit.
Great shot, and also interesting. Would I hang it on my wall? Mmmm. With a different DOF, no doubt. But that's the way you saw it ;-)
TFS, and best regards!

Well, for this one I have to steal a line from a critique I got the other day (that has been in my mind since I saw it) from Jorge (Bruno40):

Holy Camote!!

Look at that color. Talk about a background for a portrait of a door lock. Nice placement of the rings and lock and nice color.

Nice work
John
PS: I tried to answer your question on your critique of Pierre's Pakistan photo...

Hello Dennis,

Ce gros plan est superbe du fait des couleurs, ainsi que de la beauté et de la finesse des dessins.
La présence de la serrure noire vient renforcer l'effet de contraste

Marc

Hi Dennis
Superb colours of the details on the doors. I think the origin of these work is not Balinese, probably Lao or Thai in origin...I'm not sure though. But why such narrow DOF? I might have liked the left to be in a bit more focus...just my opinion though. But an interesting subject, wonderfully captured.

Angshu

Hoi Dennis, prachtige zuivere etails en kleuren, erg mooi.

Hi Dennis,
Aah....it's so nice to see such wonderful colours in a photograph, and all so uncomplicated....just great artwork. Obviously the locks and handle are the focus of attention here, which provide a good contrast to the bright colours. At first I felt the slightly blurred artwork on the left of the frame was a distraction, but after studying your image a little longer I think it works well overall as it forces my eyes back to the main subject..the old locks. Nice one Dennis.
Cheers Grant

Hi Dennis,
very interesting, well captured details of door and lock. Colours are fantastic, incredible in their variety... it looks even as unreal a little... as from fairyland... I like it.
Great shot my friend.
Best regards,
Andrzej

Hi Dennis,

Un plein de couleurs comme je les aime, belle compo, joli détail.
