Photographer’s Note
Mount Batur is a volcano, forming a caldeira, itself located at the rand of a former caldeira of gigantic dimensions. The volcano is nowadays slightly active, and one favourite attraction of visitors is to cook eggs in the water vapour springing from the soil.
Many eruptions occurred in the last centuries, the first documented one in 1804, and the deadliest in 1917. The village Batur was then completely destroyed. The last one occurred 2000.
