Photographer's Note

Pantai Ayer Manis (Sweet water Beach) is about 8 km south of the west coast Sumatran town of Padang. You can walk out to the islands at low tide, in ankle deep water. This is the Indian Ocean. The 'parahus' (canoes) on the beach, are used for fishing.

Nice composition. It's great how are mixed the islands and the palms.

Maybe I would crop the left side a little. Only to make dissapear that palm.

It looks like Paradise; I like the way you composed the shot with the front palm between the islands. Strong light/shade contrasts are managed well.

To get your numbers right for your title you do need to crop that palm on the far left, Chris:) I like the diagonals of the palms and the lovely clouds. Beautiful shadows too. An idyllic scene - well done.

Awesome! These tropical sceneries are sooo tempting now, as winter is about to leave my place!
This beach seems like very peaceful and a nice place to spend some time, chilling in the shades from the palm trees...
Great composition as always, superb colours and atmosphere very well conveyed!

A classic Chrisj scene. Nice framing, though maybe a slight sift in PoV to the left, leaving the right tree closer to edge would have been interesting.

I love the tropical scene, very good composition and colours contrast. I think that the coconut leaves in the left side of the picture doesn't do any harm to your shot. Good framing.

A beautiful spot, and a wonderful photo. I went to places like this on a trip in 1983. I think I have the slides in a box somewhere, and ought to try scanning some of them.

The small islands in middle break wonderful the horizont, in background the lovely clouds to the sky, but the palmtrees in foreground are the real eyes catchers.
Maybe a little bit cropping above and to left, for a better composition.

Hi Chris. I guess you could add 3 boats to your title. With the color of the water this place looks like a little slice of heaven. I know a lot of Sumatra got hit hard with the tsunami. I hope this area was unaffected. tfs Chris.

Wonderful view of the palm tres and island, Chris. Wonderful colours & play of light & shadows in foreground. Maybe you could have cropped out the leaves in thr left...not too disturbing though

The leaning palms ,small boats on the shore, white sand, blue ocean,the endless waves, small little islands, it look like a picture perfect postcard which we used to get in schooldays from my uncles and aunties abroad...
Excellent colours and use of lights..
The PoV is excellent.

Even though I'm a Malay, I can never get enough seeing palm frond beaches with sampans, and just off the coast small islands. Add a shady atmosphere and with a cool view of the blue sea, a hammock comes to mind. Cantik dan pemandangannya sangat bagus, terutama warna biru dan suasana tengahari yang tidak beberapa terik.

Hi Chris - beautiful tropical beach scenery, I like the placement of the palm trunk between the 2 islands, and imprrssive (but a bit too bright) looking stormcloud in the distance. Reminds me of Mission Beac, QLD somewhat.
