After sunrise on Lembongan island, seaweed farmers finishing their work in the oncoming tide. A brief sunbreak on an overcast morning, later in the day the tide covers most of the beach and the seaweed farming activity stops until the tide recedes late afternoon. The volcanoes of Bali are supposed to be visible above the horizon, but that day (and the day before), the mountains were covered in clouds.

Hola Tan... What a strange light, but also very dramatic, giving a special atmosphere to this photo, I also love the composition, with this person in the middle of the scene. Very well done.

Hey, nice to see you back! Did the weather improve at some point? I really like the mood of this shot, which is very different from your usual pristine landscapes that make me envious. I have three minor observations here: the sky is a bit noisy, the image seems to be overall soft for some reason, and the horizon has a minute yet noticeable tilt. Otherwise, it does resemble a painting and I like the way it is composed. If you have any vacation left, keep in mind that the Canadian Rockies enjoy their best weather in August and the beginning of September...

Hey Tan,

The use of the wide lens is perfect. The DOF make the picture feel very deep, so it makes me look on all the details.

Very well done,

Itamar

Hello Tan,
Wonderful light you have captured, this is my favourite, dark gray cloud background and sunlit foreground. The long shadows of the workers and the brightly lit boats are stunning. Really like your wide POV, gives the shot so much depth and interesting detail. Well worth the early morning wake-up call.
Cheers
Peter

Hey Captain !
Welcome back, hope your trip went better after your last message.
There is no spectacular captain blue sky on this image, not even you rlegendary elevated pov, but never mind I like it because this light on the sand and water makes it luminous. I'll do my best to imagine the volcanos ;-)
Oh, and congratulations for adding one new country to your already so looong list !
Have a nice day jY

Very good landscape Tan, love everthing about it,colours are spot on as well as exposure, interesting note, great work as usual.

Hi Tan
nice shot, I like the dynamic created by the scattered objects and boats.
good dof, light and natural colours
nice job
cheers

Tan,
The lighting is great here forming stark contrast to the dark sky. Your composition is great using the tracks on the beach as a lead in for the shot. The boats and people give the shot a sense of life and motion.

Asa

Hi Tan...

What a extraordinay light at the first glance... and then the circular mood given by the polarizer. The scene is very beautiful, very well textured, full of things, but nothing is disturbing. Very impressive! Thanks.

Greetings,
Angel.

HI Tan
I thought you'd been a bit quiet lately - so this is where you have been! The light here is quite special, no doubt this took some patience to catch the sunbreak, and the contrasts and colours brought out really make the scene come to life.

Tan, it was good seeing a new post from you yesterday evening.
The sky is quite menacing, yielding flat light all over. BUT, there is this nice patch of light on the sand/water. light can only arise if shadows exist and it is well shown here.
Of course, like you used us to, you have a nice vantage point, giving you a nice overview of the place and of the action going on (and there seems to be a lot of action here!).
All the best!
Marc

I had sort of expected a shot from one of your usual high POVs for your first post from Indonesia, Tan, but this is nevertheless an excellent daily life post. I do like the ambience created by the early morning light and the use of the CPL filter. It wouldn't normally occur to me to be using a polarising filter in light like this, but it does add a lot of contrast and a certain mood to the picture.

Looking forward to seeing more from your trip.

Cheers . . . David

Hi Tan,

very interesting shot. First because of the visual with the boats and the fishermen well placed in the frame, second is the effect of the dark tones. They fit pretty well in here, creating a strong atmosphere and a pleasant image reading. Very good job!

Carlos

Tan,
What a great daily life image of this not so well know place in Indonesia, at least not to me. All people can think of Indonesia is Bali, and if your lucky they've heard of Jakarta. Sea weed, part of the diet in many Asian countries. Must be quite something to see the harvest, not a typical subject here. The clouds looked threatening, yet the sun manage to peek through for you to capture this scene beautifully. With so much going on, the landscape lost its tranquility and peacefulness, yet it’s a way of life for people here and man and nature, harmoniously. Compositionally, it’s hard for the eyes to find an angchor point, but that just the way it was. Really great detail and sharpness overall with really great POV from this Angle. Thanks Tan for this rarely seen site, definitely worth more than 2 points.

It looks like a 19th century painting, Tan in it's light and the clarity of the detail. The activity fills the frame beautifully. regards kevin

Hi Tan, great light and clarity, as well as the bustling activity make this a very appealing photo. The low clouds, and the way it merges with the sea, add drama to the scene. I've come across similar seaweed farming enterprises on the east African island of Zanzibar. I believe it is mainly used as fertilizer. Great shot!

Ryno
