Photographer’s Note
Another for the hunt
I took this picture in Kobes subway, it struck me as strange because it is so sexist, all the girls in this carriage seemed like from another planet when I looked in, because I havent seen this before in my life. Apart from in Nagoya, but in Nagoya the some carriages on the trains from 5am to 9am are women only, because some men are still drunk in the morning and sometimes do illegal things to women.
However in Kobe it is all day thing, when I boarded this train, I accidently with my friend almost went in the womans only section and at the same time there was a couple that had to split ways because of the funny carriage.
I didint have my tripod at the time because it looked strange taking an all womans carriage.
I hope you like it, although it is tilted, sorry about that

good dof! I still did a workshop...I think the picture needs to be rotated a little bit. It is pretty sharp for a 1/8 expoure time. Why didn't you take away the polarizer? I think down there in the subway it doesn't help a lot!

A most interesting subject - I knew that in some places there were separated cars on religious background, but I never thought of this reason... The photo is very well composed as well - perfect depth of field and and angle.

I like the picture - but you still had the possibility to repair the tilt. I like the blurred people in the background as illustration to the rules of society.

Incredible! it is really a photograph for TE. Moreover your photograph with the focus on the panel, the women are fuzzy, it thus does not have offence there.
thank 's for sharing

I suggest a Karate training for the ladies and do the trains mixed... In the meanwhile I have to congratulate you for this photo. It´s great how you play with the sharp, it´s a kind of style a like and I use too sometime but never in such a goodway. Congratulations from Madrid.

i always imagine such things and didn't know it actually exist. The reason i wanted a all female is because the seats are small and sometimes i get squashed in between two fat men. But i guess this has its inconviences as well. Thank you for sharing. It is good information.

Thanks Dan for showing us this documentary - I would guess its mostly in crowded wagons there would be problems for woman - I like your DOF and composition - nice work indeed.

Very good photo and notes on a very interesting subject, Dan. Your choice of DOF is a fine way to accentuate the topic. First rate TE stuff, well done.

Very funny and interesting picture. The short depth of field forces us to use our imagination to identify the women in the train. In your composition you've positioned the sign just above all people, which was the best thing to do. Good result for 1/8 seconds of exposure! Great note, I heard about the drinking behaviour of Japanese men before, but it's the first time I hear this story in relationship to special train carriages for women!

what an interesting picture Daniel..both content and itself..like Michale Gun wrote, your depth forced me to see and identify who was inside (before reading the note and window sign)...very TE..thanks for sharing..

Not the kinda sign one would get away with back home in the U.K. I'd say!
Nicely presented image accompanied by a pertinent note.
Thanks Daniel, and best regards,

Interesting subject and photo. I like how you used the shallow DOF here to keep the women blurred. It sort of adds to the off limits feel of that car. Everyone is anonymous and protected on the other side of the glass and sign. Crisp shot, too and good control of the lighting. And again a really interesting subject. I never had heard of that before. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to make sure I don't get onto the wrong car whenever I get to Japan.

I recognised the "desu" at the end! This is a real TE shot that tells us something about life in Japan.

Hi Danile, this is a lovely caputre, your dof is spot on.
Besides, I, as a woman can understand that it is sometimes much safer to have your own compartment

Thank you for a true TE moment, Daniel. I didn't realise they had subway carriages for women only anywhere. You live and learn, don't you? The underground carparks here in Luxembourg systematically have the first level reserved for women - and it is always more than half empty, whereas the other levels are full. I think of that as a universal phenomenon, but maybe I should post a shot of it. The quality is fine by me. Thanks for sharing.

I like this picture so, I think if there is this method, then the women would be protected and also wouldnt get hurt

Very good catch Daniel. Is there also a carriage for men only, to protect them from drunk women?
Slightly tilted, but I like the DOF.

"The next car is only for Women"..., I had to see it, Daniel! It seems so strange, I never saw something like that in my life, so it was good that you posted it! Very good composition and excellent note, also. Good work!

Very interesting shot. It is nice that you have caputred the notice sharp and the ladies in the car are all blurred, making it more fill like they are in different world. And see how relaxed all of them look.
