Photographer’s Note

This beautiful gate is the entry point to the Kyomizu-dera temple complex in Kyoto. Actually what is called temple in Japan is very often a whole complex consisting of several buildings such as gate(s), praying halls and pagoda. This photo is shot from the pagoda base overlooking the gate, and from there you can see how this temple complex dominates the city of Kyoto below.

Beside being one of the main Kyoto landmarks, this temple is also convenient for TE members as it opens at 6:00 AM and allows for photographic meetings using the morning light. This is why Norbert and I met there on April 7 th, more than 10'000 kms away from our homes in Europe that are about 250 kms from each other, fun consideration isn't it ?
