Shinagawa Station

Among the expensive clubs and restaurants spilling over from Ginza district, an offbeat dining option is the yakitori stalls under the train tracks near Shinagawa station.

A throwback to old Tokyo, this is where businessmen and commuters unwind with grilled yakitori chicken on a stick and a couple of cold Asahi beers after a hard day. They also serve horse sashimi, something you're unlikely to encounter elsewhere.

Cousin-san kon nichi wa,
Tiens tiens ca me dit qqch ca, j'ai traine dans cette rue avec Mme Terror, comme quoi Tokyo n'est qu'un gros village et tout le monde finit par se retrouver dans qq lieux seulement. Une vue ou tu as bien maitrise la luminosite pour nous presenter ce decor typique et exotique, on y ressent aussi la chaleur du bois qui contraste avec une lumiere assez froide, et t'as meme une silhouette pour t'indiquer que ce lieu est frequente par des humains. Sinon grrrr encore une photo de pluie, y'en a marre, tu veux que je t'envoie des echantillons de TerrorBlueSky (tm) pour que tu puisses retoucher tes photos correctement ?

Wonderful use of available ambient light here to get the great warm tones. Love the light shining through the umbrella and the whole atmosphere of the shot. Nice details with the signage.
That chicken on a stick sounds delicious!

Like the tones of this one. These copper yellows have really turned into gold here. The scene is simple but very evocative. Composed very well. For me, you got the best this exposure could give you and his dark face looking at you is just amazing. Very nice.

Rain man, c'est aussi le titre d'un film si je me souviens bien...
Ca ne doit pas être déplaisant d'aller manger du poulet grillé accompagné d'une bonne asahi :) quant au horse sashimi, je n'en avais jamais entendu parler...
L'éclairage est bien dosé et nous permet de bien voir les enseignes aux caractères japonais, l'homme en silhouette et son parapluie transparent. Le cadrage vertical sied bien à l'image.

Superb exposure, great light and great detail. Look at the street, a warm glow with fantastic light and still high on detail. The man watching is cleary visiable and even contours of his face can be seen...great work on that part.
It seems you have your sharpening now fully under control, we almost can read the menucard ;-)

Me voici de retour après quelques jours d'absence pour cause de surcharge de boulot. J'aime bien les tons de cette image. C'est presque de la monochromie si ce n'était cette petite tache de vert derrière le personnage. Une ambiance un peu mytérieuse, presque spooky... pas un endroit où j'aimerais me balader toute seule après la tombée de la nuit.

A lot of atmosphere is created in this dark and light shot. Theres definately more dark, giving it a somewhat sad and sombre tone.

Yeah, great Andre. The different symbols glowing with their different lights look great. I like how the gentleman is backlit by the illuminated umbrella. I love looking into all of the nooks and crannys of this shot...so many hidden dark corners. The tone of the color here is real nice; I notice that I'm partial to monotone looks...even in color.

Cette belle unité de tons chauds(bon, la petite touche verte du tapis fait un peu désordre...mais tu es pardonné...)crée une atmosphère étrange, plus ou moins inquiétante, mais rend ta photo très attractive.J'admire ta composition et ta gestion des lumières.

Anyone who has seen the movie would definately remember the beautiful scenes of this gentle and delicate movie...
Gentle and delicate is your work also, irresistable to write a compliment to it, if you like warm colors, perfect use of exposure and a clever inclusion of a figure with an umbrella. So well a scene to capture. I loved it.

Une compsotion remarquable qui me replonge immediatment dans l'atmosphere si speciale de ce quartier de Tokyo a la tombe de la nuit. J'aime beaucoup comment tu as reussi a jourer avec toutes ces sources de lumiere et la transparence que tu as su attaraper a travers le parapluie. Une superbe ambiance, bravo.

If you don't write in your note that it is Japan, I would have believed that the photo was in China. The Kanjis are in "Chinese" style, and even the phone number is in kanji (very rare in Japan). This is probably a very traditional place (or the owner is Chinese :-) )
The light in your photo is simply fantastic. Great atmosphere.

Salut Andre, une chance d'avoir eu ce piéton et son parapluie, j'aime beaucoup l'ambiance qui pourrait faire penser à une scène de nuit d'Hong Kong où je ne sais où. Le fait que l'on ne voit pas son visage apporte aussi une petite part de mystère. Très bonne gestion de l'exposition.

Je n'avais pas suivi celle-ci : les lumières mordorées sont magnifiques. et en plus on est complètement guidé par le jeu des néons, une sorte de spirale carrée qui mène jusqu'au quidam en parapluie.

Le parapluie, justement... va falloir que je me fasse analyser car ça devient obsessionel dans ma photographie. Tu rajoutes un vélo et je peux coller deux point verts à n'importe quelle bouse. Il n'est pas question de bouse ici, évidemment... mais d'une image qui mérite entièrement ses deux points.

Il y a plusieurs aspects dans ta photographie (pas celle-là, mais en général), tu arrives à faire des compositions bien formulées mais pour moi, je trouve quelquefois qu'il y a trop de raideur (voir un portrait que j'avais critiqué) ou de simplicité "to the point" (à savoir arriver directement au but sans fioritures). Je me demande si ce n'est pas expliqué par la peur de perdre en qualité technique : si c'est le cas, je serais tenté de te conseiller d'essayer de te "lâcher", quitte à perdre un temps la qualité technique pour la regagner ensuite avec une nouvelle vision... enfin bon, mon diagnostic est peut être complètement faux...

SPlendide ce portrait, Andre. J'ai suivi le propos de Luko qui temoigne encore une fis d'une grande perspicacite. Des fois nous devenons prisonniers de la technique et...quelquechose se perd. ici il y a tout. Une grande photo.

Hello Andre, fantastic lighting of the signage here of this really interesting part of the Shinagawa area. The darkness of the man gives him a sense of anonymity, which I think works well here in this place that has so many dugout like places to drink and eat under the tracks.

Superb quality photo - one or two "like a movie" comments in the critiques and I can see why - it really does look as if the whole scene has been lit just for you! - and you certainly took advantage. Delightful.
