Silkroad travels: Kyrgyzstan
The landscape opens new vistas every five minutes while cycling down the Kyzyl Art ashuu (ashuu =pass in Kyrgyz). The place shown here is close to the first permanent settlement we meet in Kyrgyzstan, Bordöbö (3500 m asl.). It consists of a dozen houses or so. We had a meal there. The adventurer-scientist Sven Hedin mentions the settlement which he visited in 1893: "The governor of Fergana had ordered the establishment of such cabins along the way to Pamirskij post (=Murghab) to accomodate travellers." Sic!
